Donations

Several readers have attempted to make donations to Market Meditations (this publication) over the years but, thus far, I have declined donations.
Market Meditations is something that I write when I feel like it and there can be periods where I don’t write anything for a month or more. Given this, I didn’t want to accept money for something that I might not do with any regularity and I didn’t want money to compel me to write when I didn’t feel that I had anything useful to say.
However, the volume of people offering donations has increased and I have had a conversation or two with said potential donors. On one of these calls, it became clear that people wanted to donate in response to value that they had already received as opposed to for potential future value.
This reframing of things led me to think that not accepting donations was kind of silly; if someone got enough value from work that was already produced that they wanted to send money, why not accept it?
That said, Substack only allows donations if I make Meditations a paid publication. Technically, I could do this and make every post free allowing me to keep it free but to also accept donations, but I don’t like that Meditations will look like a paid publication to the world at large.
Still people have told me they really value Meditations and would like to contribute so my solution has been to tell people that, if they feel compelled, they’re welcome to sign up for my paid secular trend research on stocks (https://mktstrat.substack.com/).
In line with this, in lieu of a donation to Meditations I decided to create a special link that enables people to sign up for a year of the secular trend research for $80 (the typical Meditations donation amount): https://mktstrat.substack.com/dd999d3a
Alternatively, I’m always looking for investors for my trader principle driven tactical investment strategies. Becoming an investor would be an awesome way to demonstrate any potential appreciation for Meditations. Feel free to reach out to hear more.
Finally, I welcome you to purchase a copy of the upcoming Market Wizards book which I co-authored with Jack Schwager.
To summarize, this post is not meant to pressure readers into doing anything, it is a blanket way to respond to my donation requests as well as a way to tell you that I plan to keep Meditations free.
Thanks for reading.
George
